Early Wednesday morning a fire dubbed the Dugway Fire ignited near the mouth of Weber Canyon, consuming between 15 and 20 acres of vegetation. Communication and prevention specialist Kelly Wickens of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands reported that the blaze threatened homes situated above East Bybee Drive, though conditions appeared stable by about 6:30 a.m. No evacuation orders were issued, but a nearby resident said she was prepared to leave if required.
Multiple agencies responded, with many firefighters being locals who know the community’s roadways, allowing them to focus on the active fire zone. Traffic on U.S. Route 89 approaching Interstate 84 experienced delays, and Uintah officials urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Power outages were reported at 6:38 a.m., and crews were working to restore electricity safely and quickly while the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
