Dump truck hits e-bike rider in NYC’s Herald Square, driver flees
A 50-year-old delivery woman was killed when a dump truck struck her e-bike in Herald Square and then drove away.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. on Monday, a dump truck plowed into a 50-year-old delivery woman riding an e-bike on West 34th Street in Herald Square, just west of Seventh Avenue and near the Primark store. The driver kept moving westward, prompting a crowd of onlookers. Police later found the truck driver, questioned him, and released him without filing charges by late afternoon.
Transportation Alternatives said the victim is the 20th cyclist killed in the city this year and urged the City Council’s upcoming hearing on e-bike safety to address the growing risk. The crash follows other recent fatalities, including a Bronx pedestrian struck a week earlier and a 77-year-old killed in a Brooklyn e-scooter collision.
