Duralex faces another court-ordered rescue as Orléans tribunal reviews buyer bids

The Orléans commercial court will assess proposals to acquire the glassmaker Duralex after a cooperative bid fell through, marking the fifth judicial rescue in 25 years.

The commercial court in Orléans is scheduled to review a series of bids to purchase Duralex, following the collapse of a cooperative (Scop) rescue plan. Earlier in July 2024, political figures including Lucie Castets, Olivier Faure and Marine Tondelier visited the La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin factory to endorse the cooperative effort, which the court had recently approved. Despite that support, the Scop proposal was not successful, leaving the company in judicial rescue for the fifth time in 25 years. Duralex’s repeated financial difficulties have prompted multiple court interventions, and the forthcoming decision will shape the plant’s operational future and its role in the regional economy.

Why it matters

The outcome will decide whether the iconic Duralex factory remains operational and preserves local jobs.
