Dutch FA calls for new FIFA president and governance overhaul by 2027

The Royal Dutch Football Association has declared a loss of confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino and demands his departure by 2027, coupled with a comprehensive overhaul of the sport’s governing structure. While the KNVB supported Infantino in the most recent election, it stresses that support was never unconditional. It proposes an International Summit on the Future of FIFA in Amsterdam, seeking input from all 211 member associations and regional confederations.

Central to its reform agenda is reducing the president’s power, enhancing checks and balances, and moving key decision-making to the council under the secretary-general’s leadership. The KNVB also emphasizes human-rights, sustainability, and reinvestment of up to 90 percent of distributable revenue into football development. UEFA has asked a U.S. court for evidence to support a criminal complaint against Infantino in Switzerland.
