Dutch woman sentenced to prison and deportation for killing boyfriend in Budapest

Wendy W., a Dutch visitor, was convicted of murder after stabbing her partner to death in a Budapest Airbnb and was sentenced to nine years in prison and a ten-year ban from Hungary.

A middle-aged Dutch woman, Wendy W., traveled to Budapest for a short vacation with her boyfriend in February 2024. After a night of heavy drinking, she found messages on his phone that triggered a heated confrontation. The argument turned violent, and Wendy retrieved a 9.5 cm pocketknife she had brought for self-defence, stabbing her partner in the neck, head, shoulder and back.

The victim bled heavily, tried to reach the bathroom, but lost consciousness and died around 1 a.m. from blood loss and shock. Wendy folded the knife, placed it in her luggage, took the victim’s cash and attempted to clean the blood before calling for help. A court convicted her of murder, sentencing her to nine years’ imprisonment and a ten-year exclusion from Hungary, rejecting her claim of self-defence.
