Duterte camp says impeachment article withdrawals admit baseless accusations

The vice president’s team said the prosecutor’s removal of three impeachment counts proves the charges were unfounded from the start.

Spokesperson Salvador Paolo Panelo Jr. for Vice President Sara Duterte declared that the withdrawal of three impeachment articles on Tuesday amounts to an admission that the accusations lacked any basis. He argued the move denies the vice president due process by preventing her from confronting the charges in the Senate Impeachment Court. Panelo also said it robs her of the vindication an acquittal would provide if the court were to rule solely on evidence and law.
