Duterte to stay detained at ICC as chamber finds no grounds for release

Former President Rodrigo Duterte will remain in custody at the International Criminal Court in The Hague after Trial Chamber III ruled that circumstances have not changed to merit his release.

The ICC's Trial Chamber III concluded that there is no new situation justifying the freedom of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, so his detention will continue. In the Philippines, a witness in the Sandiganbayan plunder case testified that a P75-million contribution was meant for Senator Rodante Marcoleta's 2025 campaign. Additionally, PhilHealth announced that patients hospitalized for less than 24 hours may still qualify for inpatient benefits under guidelines effective Sept. 18.
