E-Commerce Bill slated for first parliamentary session next year

Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh announced that the E-Commerce Bill will be tabled at the first parliamentary meeting next year to regulate online transactions.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the E-Commerce Bill will be tabled at the first parliamentary meeting of the coming year to strengthen oversight of online commerce. The initial draft is finished and is being refined before it is presented. She noted that Malaysia presently has no specific law governing e-commerce, often requiring the government to mediate between digital entrepreneurs and platform providers.

The announcement follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement during the Budget 2027 rollout that the bill would be introduced at the next session. Salleh highlighted the Retail Access Programme 2026, which has helped 1,862 entrepreneurs from 2023 to October through 38 training series and 21 business-matching events, involving 103 local brands and 552 SKUs, enabling participants to meet supermarket criteria and enter retail networks.

Why it matters

The bill will create Malaysia's first dedicated e-commerce law, shaping how online sellers and platforms operate.
