Early harvest of Solaris grapes kicks off wine festivals in Slovácko
Family winery Vaďura in Polešovice has begun picking Solaris grapes for burčák, with tastings slated for the Slovácko wine festivals in Uherské Hradiště.
In Polešovice, the Vaďura family winery commenced early picking of the Solaris variety, which will be used to make burčák, a partially fermented wine. Winemaker Zbyněk Vaďura noted the start was roughly ten days earlier than usual due to a warmer summer, and that the season has been free of frost or disease, permitting fewer spray applications despite challenges from heat and limited water. Several other growers in the Slovácko sub-region have also begun early harvests, focusing on early-ripening grapes for burčák and reporting higher sugar content.
The Vinařský fond ČR director Zbyněk Vičar confirmed that the season is accelerated and yields will be lower than the previous year, though quality should remain high. Upcoming wine festivals, including the Slovácko Wine Fest in Uherské Hradiště, will feature tastings from producers in Polešovice, Blatnice, Kudlovice and other nearby villages.
