East Bengal women set new Asian record with 12-0 victory

East Bengal FC's women's side defeated Rovers FC of Guam 12-0 in the AFC Women’s Champions League preliminaries, marking the largest win ever by an Indian club in Asian competition.

In New Delhi, East Bengal FC's women's team recorded a historic 12-0 triumph over Guam's Rovers FC during the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 preliminary round. Early goals from Priyangka Devi Naorem and Astam Oraon set the tone, and a cascade of strikes from players such as Sulanjana Raul, Olivia Anokye, Abigail Antwi, Shilky Devi Hemam, Abena Opoku, and Soumya Guguloth completed the rout. This margin surpasses the club’s own men’s record of a 9-0 win in the 1985-86 Asian Club Championship, establishing the biggest win by any Indian side in an Asian tournament.

The victory follows a 4-0 opening win over Bangladesh's Rajshahi Stars FC and leaves East Bengal needing just one more success, against Malaysia's Sabah FA, to secure a place in the group stage. The result underscores the rapid rise of Indian women's football on the continental stage.

Why it matters

The win highlights the growing strength of Indian women's football and sets a new continental record for an Indian club.
