Eastlink alerts customers to possible data breach affecting personal details

Eastlink, which provides service across seven provinces and Bermuda, issued an email on Friday just before 5 p.m. AT warning that accounts might have been accessed from late Wednesday to early Thursday. The breach could have revealed customer names, contact details, account numbers and PINs, though the firm does not think credit-card or banking information was exposed. In response, Eastlink disabled the affected sections of its website and mobile app and began an internal investigation.
Former Halifax customer Caitlyn Horne, who cancelled her service in 2023, said the notification reminded her of the frequency of such incidents and called for more openness and credit-monitoring support. Jill Laing, a company spokesperson, confirmed the breach was discovered on Wednesday and that further details would be released after Monday. The incident underscores ongoing cybersecurity challenges for telecom providers.
