EasyJet Portugal cabin crew strike threatens to cancel hundreds of flights this season
EasyJet cabin crew in Portugal began a strike on Friday, putting roughly 500 flights at Lisbon, Porto and Faro at risk of cancellation.
On Friday, cabin crew employed by EasyJet in Portugal walked off the job, citing deteriorating working conditions such as erratic schedules, overtime demands and unequal treatment compared with pilots. The SNPVAC union announced two strike periods - from 2 to 6 October and again between 19 and 23 December - with the initial action projected to cancel about 500 flights across Lisbon, Porto and Faro airports, not accounting for any mandated minimum service.
Flight-tracking data already showed dozens of delays at Lisbon. A second stoppage could hit the carrier harder during the peak Christmas travel season. EasyJet said it was extremely disappointed, described the union’s demands as unworkable and pledged to limit passenger disruption, while talks mediated by the labour authority DGERT aim to resolve the dispute.
Why it matters
The strike could disrupt travel for thousands of passengers and affect tourism revenue in Portugal.
