ECRL fares to be set this month as ticket sales start in November

Malaysia Rail Link expects the Transport Ministry to announce East Coast Rail Link fares this month, with tickets on sale in November ahead of a mid-December launch.

At a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Rail Link CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak announced that the Transport Ministry is expected to publish fare details for the East Coast Rail Link within the month. The company aims to begin ticket sales in November, with full commercial service slated for mid-December. Phase One of the project, linking Kota Bharu to Gombak, has reached 98.16% completion as of September.

Darwis highlighted the performance of the ECRL Comprehensive Inspection Train, which completed a nonstop 519-km run from Gombak to Kota Bharu in three hours and 19 minutes, hitting speeds up to 160 kph. This trial demonstrates the line’s capacity to offer an express journey of under four hours along the Gombak-KotaSAS-Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu route. Once operational, the 665-km railway will cut travel time between Kota Bharu and Gombak from about seven hours by road to roughly four hours.
