EDF meets Indian officials to discuss EPR reactor rollout and local supply chain

EDF held a meeting with senior officials from India's power and external affairs ministries, as well as executives from state-owned NTPC Ltd and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. Chairman and CEO Bernard Fontana outlined EDF's strategy to establish a large-scale localisation ecosystem for its European Pressurised Reactor technology, emphasizing economies of scale for Indian suppliers. Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal updated the French delegation on progress with the Draft SHANTI Rules, which provide a time-bound licensing framework and open the nuclear sector to private and foreign partners.

The discussion also examined cooperation on pumped-hydro storage projects and the development of a joint venture between NTPC and EDF. Both sides expressed interest in a mutually beneficial partnership as India advances its nuclear regulatory reforms.
