Edmonton man charged with threatening Prime Minister Mark Carney online
Police arrested Dwight Peter MacIntyre in Edmonton and charged him with making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney after a social-media post was reported.
Following a report of a threatening post on the platform X, the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team opened a probe on Sept. 4 into a user targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney. The investigation identified 44-year-old Edmonton resident Dwight Peter MacIntyre as the suspect, and he was arrested and charged with uttering a threat five days later. Superintendent Matt Johnson emphasized that criminal conduct online will be pursued and that such actions have tangible consequences.
The operation was conducted with assistance from the Edmonton Police Service and the Alberta RCMP’s Parkland detachment, though the exact location of the arrest was not disclosed. Police warned of a heightened security environment for public figures worldwide. MacIntyre is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Nov. 25.
