Édouard Philippe seeks to drop retirement and speed-limit labels ahead of 2027 campaign

Édouard Philippe, the Horizons contender for the 2027 presidential election, is set to present his pension reform on Tuesday, hoping to shed the image of being linked to a particular retirement age. He is also working to reduce the perception that he is the architect of the 80 km/h speed limit on secondary roads, a policy he introduced in 2018. François Goulard, the party’s treasurer, noted that online criticism frequently targets these two policy areas.

In response, Philippe’s campaign team, led by Marie Guévenoux, aims to deliver a pension proposal described as balanced, fair, and clearly communicated, emphasizing that some concessions will be necessary to sustain the system. The move reflects a broader effort to rebrand his political narrative before the election campaign intensifies.
