Education Minister Lannert vows to endure attacks amid KDNP criticism

In a Facebook post, Education and Child Affairs Minister Judit Lannert said she can bear any amount of criticism, responding to a sustained campaign by opposition parties. She asserted that the Fidesz-KDNP coalition has historically undermined the education system and that KDNP is now repurposing three-year-old remarks to allege she disrespected teachers, even launching a petition for her resignation. Prime Minister Magyar Péter intervened in parliament, telling MP Rétvári Bence not to vilify Lannert, arguing that personal attacks only boost her popularity.

Lannert criticized the KDNP’s use of edited videos and accused the party of exploiting teachers for partisan gain, listing past reforms that she says have weakened teacher autonomy and dismissed over 1,200 educators. She concluded that rebuilding Hungary’s education must start from scratch, regardless of continued political sabotage.
