Education Ministry expands CCTV and safety measures in boarding schools
The Education Ministry will install CCTV in 333 boarding schools and has deployed 300 MySTEP assistants to hostels to improve student safety.
The Education Ministry disclosed a RM5 million allocation to broaden CCTV surveillance to 333 boarding schools during one outlet year. Since April, 300 MySTEP warden assistants have been assigned to student hostels to strengthen safety and deter bullying. An anonymous Bullying Complaint Portal has been added to protect complainants, while the S.A.F-E Framework supports prevention, early intervention and rehabilitation through peer groups and counselling.
Character education focusing on integrity and empathy will be introduced in the 2027 curriculum. The ministry is also drafting an Anti-Bullying Act 2026 with a dedicated tribunal, building on guidelines issued in 2023.
