Education Secretary Angara welcomes new budget allocations for classrooms, safety and learning recovery
Education Secretary Sonny Angara thanked a House panel for approving additional funding to support classroom construction, school safety and the ARAL learning program.
The Budget Amendments Review Subcommittee of the House Committee on Appropriations approved supplemental funding for the Department of Education, covering classroom construction, school safety and the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAR) program. Angara expressed gratitude to the committee, noting that the added resources will ease overcrowding, enhance security on campuses and sustain tutoring for learners who need extra help.
The ARAR allocation is intended to keep momentum in reading recovery after earlier interventions lowered the number of struggling readers. Additional restored funds will support inclusive education, including special needs, Madrasah and Indigenous Peoples programs. Angara emphasized accountability and timely implementation for the new classroom projects. He also highlighted the importance of a community-based approach to school safety involving parents, local officials and law enforcement.
Why it matters
The funding aims to improve Philippine public schools' infrastructure, safety and learning outcomes for vulnerable students.
