EFCC chief announces dismissal of over 40 staff for corruption
Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has terminated more than 40 employees over alleged corruption and financial misconduct, with five facing prosecution.
During a press event in Abuja, EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede announced that more than 40 of the commission’s own personnel have been sacked for alleged corruption and financial malpractice over the past three years. Five of the dismissed workers are currently facing prosecution, and legal actions are being readied for the remaining staff. Olukoyede used the occasion to showcase the agency’s performance, citing the recovery of 1.23 trillion naira and a conviction rate of 75 percent.
He reported that the commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases in court, and secured 10,872 convictions between October 2023 and July 2026, including 1,370 convictions from 1,889 filings in the first half of 2026. The statements underscore the EFCC’s focus on internal integrity while continuing its broader anti-corruption mandate.
