Efferon launches CE-marked device to cut pediatric sepsis deaths

Efferon’s new pediatric blood-purification system, Efferon NEO, has earned a CE mark and is being used in intensive care units across dozens of countries to treat sepsis in children.

Efferon, a startup selected for one outlet Disrupt 2026’s Startup Battlefield 200, has introduced Efferon NEO, a blood-purification device built for children with sepsis. Unlike existing adult-focused systems, the new absorber targets both harmful endotoxins and inflammatory cytokines, which Romashin likens to fire and smoke. After obtaining a CE mark - Europe’s counterpart to FDA clearance - the device has been installed in intensive care units across roughly 30 nations, including hospitals in Europe, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

The technology stems from research at Moscow State University, where co-founder Ivan Bessonov helped develop the core absorption method. Romashin, who joined as CEO to commercialize the invention, says the firm aims for FDA approval and expects to reach $2 million in annualized revenue by late 2026, measuring success by the number of children who survive sepsis.
