Egypt launches Future of Egypt Medical Alliance to boost medical tourism and restructure military hospitals

The Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority unveiled the Future of Egypt Medical Alliance Company, led by Major General Khaled Oweida, as its first foray into healthcare. In its initial phase the alliance will absorb the International Medical Center and the Air Force Specialized Hospital, which currently serve both military staff and fee-paying civilians. The entity’s strategy focuses on building a comprehensive medical-tourism ecosystem, handling everything from pre-travel assessments to post-procedure care, and is aimed at Gulf and other international patients whose insurers pay in dollars.

Additional Armed Forces facilities such as the Maadi Armed Forces Medical Complex, as well as Ministry hospitals like Luxor International Hospital, are slated to join the alliance, which will have authority to restructure staff and operations. The model draws on a French partnership that split services between profit-making care and subsidised treatment for low-income patients. Legal frameworks allow private investors to manage public hospitals for up to 15 years, though formal decrees transferring ownership have not yet been published.
