Egyptian President El-Sisi to Visit South Korea for Economic and Diplomatic Talks

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will travel to Seoul this week for a state visit and a summit with President Lee Jae Myung on economic and international issues.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt is set to make a state visit to South Korea, arriving in Seoul on Wednesday and holding a summit with President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday. Over the three-day visit, the two heads of state will hold in-depth talks covering economic cooperation such as trade, investment, infrastructure projects and supply-chain links, alongside broader regional political and international matters. The visit is intended to deepen bilateral ties into a strategic partnership and to boost South Korea’s engagement with Africa and the Middle East.

It is El-Sisi’s first trip to the country since 2016, after the two leaders previously met during Lee’s November visit to Egypt. Officials expect the talks to expand people-to-people exchanges and reinforce cooperation across multiple sectors.

Why it matters

The visit could strengthen economic links between Egypt and South Korea and expand South Korea’s influence in Africa and the Middle East.
