Eight detained after masked mob assaults soldiers at Navarre bar during World Cup final
Police arrested eight suspects for violently attacking military personnel at a Berriozar bar during the World Cup final, leaving several injured.
During the World Cup final, a group of masked assailants stormed the terrace of Bar Restaurante Eatalian in Berriozar, targeting a table of soldiers from the nearby Aizoain garrison. Around 22:15, the attackers, dressed in black, used batons and extended batons, throwing tables and chairs, which left at least three military members injured, one with an open head wound and broken ribs, and about half a dozen others with various injuries.
Security camera recordings captured the savage assault. The Guardia Civil and Policía Foral conducted a joint investigation, leading to the arrest of eight suspects in Pamplona and Berriozar. The case is being handled by the second court of the Tribunal de Instancia of Pamplona under secrecy. Berriozar mayor Iker Mariezkurrena condemned the incident, labeling the soldiers as belonging to a “fascist” organization, while the bar remained closed for several days.
