Eight far-right activists receive suspended sentences for disrupting LFI mayoral rally
Eight members of the Nouvelle Droite movement were sentenced to suspended prison terms for interrupting a former LFI mayor’s campaign meeting in Faches-Thumesnil.
During a municipal election campaign, a group of about fifteen masked individuals broke into a meeting held by former LFI mayor Patrick Proisy in Faches-Thumesnil, interrupting his speech and that of LFI deputy Aurélien Le Coq. The activists displayed slogans referencing a recent far-right murder and projected red paint to symbolize blood before fleeing the scene. At trial, the prosecutor described the conduct as violent, organized, and claimed.
The court sentenced five men and three women, born between 1986 and 2003, to suspended prison terms of six to eighteen months, imposed a three-year ban on contacting the victims, a two-year political ineligibility, required a citizenship course, and levied fines. Proisy, describing the incident as traumatic, welcomed the judgment as a firm response from the justice system.
