Eight police officers and a civilian detained in Taman Keramat drug raid

Eight lower-rank police officers and a civilian were taken into custody during a raid on suspected drug-related activities in Taman Keramat on Tuesday night.

An integrated police operation, prompted by intelligence gathered by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department, was carried out at a location on Jalan AU 1 in Taman Keramat at 8.45 pm on Tuesday. The raid resulted in the detention of eight lower-ranking officers - seven attached to various units of the Sentul district police headquarters and one from the Brickfields district headquarters - as well as a civilian suspect.

The suspects are now being held at the Hulu Kelang police station lock-up. Investigation papers have been lodged and the police have applied for a remand order under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 to further the probe. Datuk Aida Abdul Hamid, director of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being monitored closely. The operation was supported by the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters' Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.

Why it matters

The arrests highlight internal corruption concerns within Malaysia's police force and could affect public trust.
