Eight Pune schoolchildren drown during a picnic at Diveagar beach
Eight students from a Pune coaching class died after drowning at Diveagar beach while on a school picnic, police said.
A group of 42 pupils from a private coaching centre in Alandi, Pune, went on a beach outing at Diveagar in Raigad district. Some of the teenagers entered the water, but eight of them failed to return and were later found dead. Police confirmed that all eight bodies have been recovered. The victims were in classes 11 and 12. Further details, including the names of the deceased, have not yet been released.
