Eighth Australian Rescued After Nepal-Tibet Floods, Hundreds Still Missing

Authorities have confirmed that another Australian, who was not in the immediate flood-hit area, is safe, marking the eighth national to be found after the Nepal-Tibet floods. There are still 35 Australians missing, 34 of whom were part of the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage and one traveling independently. The disaster has resulted in at least 1,399 deaths and over 5,400 people still unaccounted for in the two regions.

Chinese state media noted that none of the recovered bodies in Tibet were foreign nationals, and Chinese officials listed 261 missing foreigners from 23 countries. In Nepal, rescue efforts are focused on hydropower tunnel sites where roughly 900 individuals are missing, with the army estimating 121 could be trapped inside the tunnel network.
