Einride to integrate 500 Tesla Semi trucks into its fleet over two years

Swedish autonomous-truck firm Einride announced a plan to acquire 500 Tesla Semi vehicles, adding them to its service for Amazon and other shippers.

Einride disclosed a deal to purchase 500 Tesla Semi trucks, to be rolled out gradually from September over the next 24 months. The Teslas will be managed by Einride’s Saga AI software, allowing customers to benefit from electric hauling without owning the vehicles. CEO Roozbeh Charli called the rollout a proof of the company’s ability to meet large-scale demand.

The acquisition will triple Einride’s fleet, which already includes about 200 electric trucks serving clients such as Heineken and PepsiCo, and will extend service to routes in California, Georgia, New Jersey and Texas. A third-party financier will fund the purchase, and the company estimates the deal could turn roughly $800 million of potential long-term revenue into realized income. Recent moves also include a partnership with Amazon and the purchase of charging firm Flipturn to offer end-to-end electric logistics solutions.

Why it matters

The deal could accelerate adoption of electric freight trucks and boost Einride's market position in North America.
