Einride to Test Nvidia's Alpamayo AI Model in Autonomous Trucks
Swedish self-driving truck firm Einride will expand its tie-up with Nvidia by trialing the chipmaker's Alpamayo vision-language model in its autonomous vehicles.
Einride said it will broaden its collaboration with Nvidia by testing the latter's Alpamayo vision-language-action model in its self-driving trucks. The Swedish firm intends to be the first freight operator to field Alpamayo, adapting the system with data gathered from its ongoing commercial services. Initial trials will run in shadow mode, allowing the AI's decisions to be compared with Einride's own software and human drivers without taking control.
A live road evaluation is planned for the latter half of 2027, which Einride expects will accelerate development and ease the rollout of autonomous capabilities to additional vehicle classes and routes. The partnership extends a September-announced Nvidia tie-up covering autonomous driving, safety systems and AI training. The announcement comes after Einride rolled out what it called the first cab-less autonomous truck in regular public-road service in Germany for supermarket chain Lidl, and follows Nvidia's showcase of European mobility firms using its Hyperion platform.
Why it matters
The test could speed up autonomous freight deployment and lower costs, shaping the future of logistics.
