El Niño triggers calamity declarations in 106 Philippine locales, affecting over 388,000 people

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council says El Niño has placed 106 cities and municipalities under a state of calamity, impacting more than 388,000 individuals.

According to the NDRRMC, the extreme weather pattern has led to emergency declarations in 106 areas across the Philippines. The most affected region is Cagayan, with 66 localities declared in crisis, followed by Caraga, Bicol, Calabarzon and Soccsksargen. In total, 388,375 people - representing 104,149 families - are experiencing hardship from the drought conditions linked to El Niño.
