ELAS demands clarification on Michalis Bekiris' unpaid role and property deal
The Greek Left Coalition (ELAS) has asked Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to explain the appointment, qualifications and compensation of Michalis Bekiris, who serves as a “volunteer” director of the PM’s parliamentary office.
The Greek Left Coalition has formally requested answers from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding Michalis Bekiris, who is presented as the director of the prime minister’s office in the Parliament. According to Documento, Bekiris lacks a documented university degree and no official government gazette notice confirms his appointment, contrary to procedural norms. When approached, Bekiris reportedly said he occupies the role on a volunteer basis, prompting ELAS to inquire about any salary or benefits he might receive.
The coalition also cited a recent acquisition by Bekiris of a 141-square-metre apartment bought at a price they deem significantly below market value, asking for details on the funding source. ELAS urges the government to provide a prompt public response to these allegations.
