Elderly activist Maricarmen Abascal urges Sol protestors from hospital

Eighty-seven-year-old Maricarmen Abascal, recently evicted from her Madrid home and now hospitalized, posted a video on Monday night addressed to the crowd camped at Puerta del Sol. In the recording she urged the protesters to remain steadfast in their struggle over the housing crisis and voiced a desire to be there with them. Abascal asked the demonstrators to protect themselves while continuing their occupation and to fight for what is theirs.

She concluded with a heartfelt embrace and optimism that the movement would achieve a good outcome. The encampment entered its second night, with hundreds of activists gathered in the square.
