Despite Ring’s ability to call 999 and reach the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries early on September 9. During the trial, Donoher made delusional statements about killing a paedophile and becoming a prison legend.
Prosecutors highlighted Donoher’s long-term substance abuse and a diagnosis of chronic mental illness, with three consultant psychiatrists recommending treatment over incarceration. Judge Shaun Smith KC sentenced him to a hospital order, noting the irreversible harm to Ring’s family.
