Elderly Nepali survivor rescued after deadly flash floods

A 97-year-old woman was pulled from flood-rubble in Nepal and is now recovering in hospital.

Guna Maya Bohara, aged 97, was rescued after her care home was buried by flash floods in Nepal. Her great-nephew, Dipak Bohara, traveled from Kathmandu to help and described her as looking like a victorious warrior. The extraction took four hours, and doctors say she is now stable. The floods, linked to a glacier collapse in the Himalayan border with Tibet, have killed hundreds.

Why it matters

The rescue underscores the human toll of climate-linked disasters and the resilience of affected communities.
