Election Commission schedules Nov. 6 meeting to set timetable for Sarawak state vote
The Election Commission will convene on Nov 6 to decide key dates for Sarawak’s 13th state election, including writ issuance, nominations and polling.
The Election Commission announced a special meeting on Nov 6, led by its chairman, to determine the timetable for Sarawak’s 13th state election. Topics on the agenda include the issuance of election writs, setting nomination and polling dates, and confirming the electoral roll. The commission received formal notification from the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Speaker confirming the dissolution of one outlet Assembly effective the previous day.
Under Sarawak’s constitution, an election must occur within 60 days of dissolution. The state’s premier had earlier declared the assembly’s dissolution effective Oct 26 to pave the way for the vote. A press briefing will follow the meeting.
