Election Commission sets October timetable for 12 Rajya Sabha seats across three states
The Election Commission of India announced that elections for 11 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, plus a West Bengal by-election, will be held in October.
India’s Election Commission disclosed the timetable for upcoming Rajya Sabha elections covering 12 seats. Ten seats from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand will become vacant when current members’ six-year terms finish on November 25, while a West Bengal seat is open after a resignation. The commission will publish official notices on September 29, after which candidates must file nominations by October 6; these will be examined on October 7 and can be withdrawn until October 9.
If required, voting will occur on October 16 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with counting at 5 p.m. and the entire process concluding by October 19. The West Bengal winner will complete the original term ending in April 2032.
