Election expert warns poll workers can't counter deep Trump supporter infiltration
Election attorney Marc Elias told MS NOW that relying on poll workers to stop a Trump-backed takeover is unrealistic given the presence of loyalists in local election offices.
Marc Elias, a specialist in election law, told MS NOW anchor Jacob Soboroff that the notion poll workers will automatically block a Trump-driven effort to manipulate voting is misguided. He explained that expecting local officials to confront federal authorities or armed agents is a heavy burden, especially when many election offices are staffed by Trump supporters. Elias referenced the imprisonment of Tina Peters as an example of election officials aligned with denialist views.
He warned that Republicans have placed such deniers not only in statewide offices but also in numerous county positions across states like Texas, Florida, and others. The attorney noted that the Justice Department has filed lawsuits against 30 states, with 20 choosing to cooperate voluntarily, leaving the remaining states at higher risk. He concluded that a comprehensive, all-hands response is required, rather than relying solely on poll workers or lawyers.
