Electrocution near Mumbai Ganapati pandal kills child and woman, injures several
Two people, including an eight-year-old girl, died and several were hurt after an electrocution near a Ganapati pandal in Mumbai’s Lalbaug area early Sunday.
Early Sunday morning, an electrocution near the Kalachowki Vibhag Sarvajanik Ustav Mandal on Dattaram Lad Marg in Mumbai’s Lalbaug district resulted in two fatalities - eight-year-old Raghni Ghanshyam Yadav and a woman later pronounced dead at Global Hospital - and several injuries. The incident, reported at about 2:20 am amid large crowds for the Ganapati festival, prompted the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BEST and civic ward staff to arrive after a 2:42 am alert.
Injured persons, including teenagers Kiran Akbar Naik, Tanvi Narsh Hande, Sahil Sandip Tare and 12-year-old Ruhi Singh, were transported to Masina Hospital in Byculla and Global Hospital in Parel. Earlier, 25-year-old Jaydeep Meghraj Nemade from Pune suffered a heart attack while seated near the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh pandal and died in hospital. The Kalachowki police station has recorded the deaths as accidental, with families reporting no suspicion of foul play.
