Elon Musk says Grok will tap Anthropic's Claude Opus alongside other AI tools
Elon Musk announced that Grok will incorporate Anthropic’s Claude Opus model, as well as Midjourney and Suno, choosing the best backend for each task.
Elon Musk disclosed that the Grok chatbot will now draw on a mix of internal and third-party AI models, including Anthropic’s latest Claude Opus, the visual creation tool Midjourney, and the audio generation service Suno. He explained that Grok will automatically pick the backend that best fits each user request, aiming for the highest quality results. This marks a shift for Musk, who has poured billions into building xAI as a rival to OpenAI and Anthropic, and recently integrated the AI unit under SpaceX.
The move comes after a brief outage that limited access to Grok’s mobile and web interfaces. Data from City AM indicated that Anthropic already commands a large portion of UK businesses’ AI budgets, while ChatGPT’s share has fallen. The partnership could boost Anthropic’s revenue ahead of a potential stock market listing valued at trillions of dollars.
Why it matters
Musk’s hybrid AI approach could reshape competition by prioritizing best-in-class models over proprietary tech.
