Energia announces electricity and gas price hikes effective October 12
Energia will raise electricity bills by 4.73% and gas bills by 9.38% for customers starting 12 October, adding roughly €87 and €142 per year respectively.
Energia disclosed that, beginning 12 October, electricity tariffs will climb 4.73%, costing customers an additional €1.67 each week, and the standing charge will rise 5%. Gas rates will increase 9.38%, adding €2.74 per one outlet, with no change to the standing charge. Customers with both services will experience a 6.73% overall bill increase, amounting to €4.41 weekly.
Managing Director of Customer Solutions Gary Ryan attributed the hikes to ongoing global wholesale market volatility and higher network charges, noting it is the first gas increase since 2022. He highlighted partnerships with charities such as St Vincent de Paul, MABS and Alone, and urged affected households to contact the support team. Energy Minister Darragh O’Brien, speaking on Today FM, advised the public to consider home retrofits, switch suppliers, and apply for state reimbursement schemes that can save up to €1,600 annually.
