Energy expert warns diesel motorists to fill up as US export ban looms

During a Moneybox interview, Ellen Fraser, an energy and resources specialist at Baringer, warned that diesel prices in the UK are likely to keep climbing as the United States considers a full diesel export ban under President Donald Trump. Recent analysis indicates the country has emergency diesel stocks sufficient for just 42 days, and US shipments account for roughly one-third of total imports. Fraser highlighted additional pressures from reduced refinery capacity in the Strait of Hormuz and Russia, as well as seasonal demand spikes.

Chief economist Thomas Pugh of RSM said sectors such as road haulage, farming, construction and distribution would feel the brunt of any ban. Fraser advised motorists to lock in purchases now, noting forward market curves suggest prices will remain elevated at least until spring.
