Enforcement Directorate raids homes of IAS officer linked to KPSC exam money-laundering probe
The Enforcement Directorate searched properties of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar in Bengaluru and Bareilly as part of a money-laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in a Karnataka Public Service Commission exam.
The Enforcement Directorate has executed searches at the Bengaluru and Bareilly residences of Indian Administrative Service officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, who currently holds the post of Director-MSME in Karnataka's Department of Industries and Commerce. The action, taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is tied to a probe into alleged financial misconduct surrounding a Karnataka Public Service Commission examination for veterinary officers.
Gangwar, a 2016-batch IAS officer and former Controller of Examinations at the KPSC, was replaced from that role in March. A brief controversy arose when he was reported missing, but Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge later explained that he was in his hometown in Uttar Pradesh attending to his father's health. This raid follows earlier searches on August 18 that targeted the KPSC office and the homes of former chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar, member Shanta Hosmani, among others. Officials have not confirmed whether Gangwar was present during the searches.
Why it matters
The raids highlight a high-level investigation into alleged corruption in a state recruitment exam, raising concerns about integrity in public service hiring.
