Enforcement Directorate seizes notebook from Kerala chief minister's daughter linking UAE transfers
The Enforcement Directorate confiscated a notebook from T Veena, daughter of former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, containing entries that show large AED transfers to a UAE associate.
Investigators from the Enforcement Directorate seized a notebook on May 27, 2026, from the home of T Veena, the daughter of former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, as part of the CMRL-Exalogic money-laundering probe. The ledger records a "total deposit" of AED 2,82,600 and a transfer of AED 1,46,600 to Faijaz VP, described as a long-time UAE associate. It also shows figures of 85 lakh sent and 349 k received, with the latter exceeding the recorded transfer by roughly AED 2 lakh, leaving analysts uncertain about the exact flow of funds through hawala versus banks.
A subsequent page lists local transfers of 94,100 and 52,500, the latter linked to a Mashreq account, while the currency for the former is unspecified. The entries do not mention Vijayan or former minister PA Mohammed Riyas, but the ED’s letter connects the transactions to Riyas via statements from Varish K and Shyjal K recorded on August 18 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Veena told investigators the names on the notebook were written in March 2026 for a proposed business investment and described Faizaj as a ten-year friend.
Why it matters
The seizure ties a senior political family to alleged cross-border money-laundering, raising questions about corruption and financial oversight.
