Engineer accuses Jacques Moretti of falsifying building permit documents in Crans-Montana fire case
A civil engineer says his name was used without consent on a construction permit linked to the deadly Crans-Montana fire that killed 41 people.
During the investigation of the December 2025 fire in Crans-Montana that left 41 dead and 115 injured, Valais police interviewed a building engineer who learned he was cited in a public construction permit for the Constellation building without his knowledge. The engineer claims a municipal building department official, in coordination with the draftsman, inserted his name to meet legal diploma requirements, as the draftsman lacked the necessary credentials.
The permit listed Jacques Moretti as the applicant and named a drafter and an engineer, but the engineer was not actually part of the project. Moretti, who is currently detained, and the municipal employee involved have declined to comment. The same municipal employee is also under investigation for a 2017 violation related to a smoking room approval in the building’s basement.
