Eni sets price caps on gasoline and diesel as tax discount ends
Eni announced a ceiling of €2.19 per litre for diesel and €1.99 for gasoline, tied to the upcoming cut in the diesel tax rebate.
On the eve of a reduction in the diesel excise-tax rebate, Eni introduced a voluntary price-cap scheme for its Enilive network. The maximum price is set at €2.19 per litre for diesel and €1.99 per litre for gasoline, about €0.17 lower than the present average retail rates. The cap will be in force for an initial 30-day term and could be prolonged until the end of the year, contingent on market trends and supply conditions.
Current data show average self-service prices of €2.154 for gasoline and €2.338 for diesel on the national road network, with similar levels on highways. The existing diesel tax rebate, which includes VAT, stands at €0.122 per litre and will be reduced to €0.061 per litre. The move comes as fuel prices have held steady after a series of increases.
