Entain to cut up to 400 UK customer-care roles amid higher gambling taxes

Entain, which operates Ladbrokes and Coral, will remove up to 400 customer-care positions in the United Kingdom, attributing the step to a tougher operating climate after the latest tax hike on remote gambling. The Labour budget increased the remote-gaming rate to 40% and the online sports-betting levy to 25%, prompting the company to reassess its cost structure. This follows a prior programme that saw 500 technology and corporate roles trimmed earlier in the year.
With a UK workforce exceeding 13,000 across more than 2,300 retail outlets, Entain’s latest plan reflects broader sector pressure, highlighted by Bet365’s recent 300-job reduction at its Stoke-on-Trent headquarters. Company chief Stella David warned that further tax changes could threaten shop viability and lead to additional job losses.
