Environmental groups rally at Bercy demanding stronger climate budget measures
Around a hundred demonstrators gathered near the Ministry of Economy in Paris, urging the government to adopt a climate-focused budget before the 2027 finance bill.
A crowd of about one hundred people assembled outside the Ministry of Economy in Paris at the invitation of a coalition of fifty environmental, nursing and student organisations. Representatives of France Nature Environnement, the Ligue des droits de l’homme and the Syndicat des sapeurs-pompiers volontaires de France each addressed the audience, demanding a budget that reflects the urgency of climate change. They asked for the Green Climate Fund to be reinstated at its 2024 level and increased to one billion euros for the 2027 budget, arguing that recent reductions to ecological programmes, redirected to fund an agricultural emergency plan, are insufficient.
Axèle Gilbert of France Nature Environnement and its director general Jean-François Julliard stressed the need for concrete adaptation measures. Thierry Amouroux of the nurses’ union linked climate impacts to rising cases of asthma, diabetes and cancer, urging practical steps such as identifying vulnerable households during heatwaves. The government is finalising the 2027 finance bill in the coming days.
Why it matters
The protest highlights growing public pressure on France to allocate more resources for climate adaptation before the next budget is approved.
