Environmental police arrest 55-year-old over concrete plant waste spill into Kifisos River
Police from the Environmental Protection Department detained a 55-year-old responsible for breaching environmental regulations after liquid waste from a concrete plant was found flowing into the Kifisos River.
A 55-year-old manager charged with ensuring compliance with environmental conditions at a concrete-mixing company in Metamorfosi was taken into custody by the Environmental Protection Department of GADA after a leak was detected. Joint inspections by GADA officers and the Attica Region’s Environment and Climate Change Directorate revealed that liquid waste escaped from a settling tank located near the riverbank, creating a visible flow across the site toward the Kifisos River.
Laboratory tests confirmed the waste had an alkaline reaction, and samples have been sent for further analysis. Authorities say the discharge contaminated the river and could endanger public health. Ongoing daily inspections aim to identify additional violations that might threaten the community.
