Envision Energy earns Fortune Change the World honor for AI-green power convergence

Envision Energy was added to Fortune's 2026 Change the World list for its Mission Gobi project that pairs AI computing with renewable energy in desert regions.

Fortune’s annual Change the World list recognized Envision Energy for pioneering the convergence of artificial intelligence and renewable energy through its Mission Gobi program. Launched in June 2026, Mission Gobi targets 5 GW of green AI computing capacity worldwide by 2030, leveraging wind and solar resources in deserts and other arid regions. Its inaugural site, the Envision Galaxy Campus in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, is designed to scale beyond 2 GW and accommodate up to one million AI chips, with most power supplied by renewable sources.

Lei Zhang, the company’s founder and CEO, said the initiative demonstrates how energy abundance can support the growing demand of AI computing without straining existing grids. The project aims to turn previously energy-constrained locations into new hubs for AI infrastructure, illustrating a model where energy and intelligence reinforce each other. Envision’s inclusion marks its third appearance on the Fortune list, following recognitions for renewable innovation in 2021 and net-zero industrial parks in 2024.

Why it matters

It shows how clean power can meet soaring AI demand, reducing the carbon impact of future computing.
